**IMPORTANT**--- MBASA response to government fines to McGill University

Please see below the statement issued by MBASA regarding our feelings towards the fines that have been levied against McGill because of our program's privitization:

Recently a survey was conducted for all MBA students at McGill University addressing a bevy of issues concerning student life from healthcare issues to language lessons and the impact of tuition. We wish to share some of the key results of the survey concerning the impact of tuition and costs of the program:

  • ·        70% of students surveyed say that the program is at a reasonable or below reasonable price
  • ·        66% of students surveyed believe that the program’s costs should either be frozen at current rates or increased in the future.
  • ·        70% of students surveyed believe that it is fair that certain programs can have different costs.

We as the students believe that the increased costs are a necessary part of McGill’s efforts to make this program into one of the best of the world. We oppose any actions taken that may hinder the University’s attempt to make this a reality. This effort on behalf of the faculty has already seen an increase of 38 places in the University’s standing worldwide in the most recent Financial Times rankings. While these rankings are good indicators of the public opinion towards the program, it is more important that we as the students understand the improvements the program is making. In response to the fines that have been levied, we feel that this will affect McGill and all of its programs unfairly in response to an action that has been voluntarily taken by the MBA students to pay these increased rates.

The more impactful issue at hand for us as students has been the unequal treatment of us compared to other graduate students in Quebec in terms of bursary support and financial aid. Our decision to pay the market price for our education should not affect our ability to receive funding in support of our endeavors to become future industry leaders within Quebec.

We have put our full faith in McGill as a premier university to determine the best way to educate us as its students and hope that this situation is resolved in a way favorable towards the university and the students as well.
